FNMI POPULATIONS

First Nations, Metis, and Inuit populations suffer a long history of violence and injustice. They are engulfed by intergenerational trauma as a result of horrific experiences in residential schools, their mistreatment on and off reserves, a stripped livelihood due to a lack of basic human needs, etc. It is our job as educators to try to support Indigenous students in our classrooms with this in mind. The students we teach today are the children of survivors. In this section, resources are provided on the topics of intergenerational trauma, residential schools, and truth and reconciliation.
